Account takeover (ATO)

Account takeover (ATO) is an attack in which a third party gains control of a legitimate account, such as a customer's online banking profile or an employee's mailbox, and uses it as if they were the owner. Credential theft is only the means; account takeover is the outcome: changing contact details, moving money or sending fraudulent email from the account.
