Pretexting

Pretexting is a social engineering technique in which an attacker invents a believable scenario, the pretext, and poses as someone trustworthy to obtain information or access. The attacker may call as an IT support technician to ask for a verification code or email as an auditor requesting payroll data. Unlike mass phishing, each contact is tailored to its target.
