Pseudonymization and anonymization

Pseudonymization replaces a person's identifiers, such as a name or customer number, with a code, so the data can only be linked back to them using additional information stored separately. Anonymization removes that possibility irreversibly. That is why pseudonymized data is still personal data under laws such as the GDPR, while truly anonymized data is not. Tokenization is one form of pseudonymization.
